 The 2009 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Hervé has a healthy dark ruby/purple tinge like the other cuvees and is a blend of 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 20% Mourvedre. This is a more tannic, earthier wine, with autumnal vegetative notes intermixed with pepper, garrigue, black currant and black cherry. This dense wine should have outstanding potential once it gets into the bottle.  (10/ 2010)

The 2009 Cuvée Hervé from negociant Alain Corcia displays the admirable structure and intensity that often characterizes classic wines from Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Vibrant and deep, with bright red cherry notes as well as spicy hints of star anise and cocoa, this 2009 grenache based red possesess more strident tannins than some of the other cuvées in the 2009 Corica lineup. Cuvee Herve is another extraordinarily well-priced Chateauneuf-de-Pape from super star negociant Alain Corcia. A blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre, this wine truly shows delightful characteristics of all it’s components. The Grenache providing some great up front red fruits followed immediately buy the denser dark fruited and smoky Syrah. The wine also possesses a gamey earthy character that I often attribute to a good helping of Mourvedre. This wine is pretty big and dense but due to the ripeness of the phenomenal 2009 vintage I also think it can be enjoyed in it’s youth. Cheers!

An excellent CNP at an excellent price. Fairly ripe with black currant and black cherry fruit which is offset by cocoa, licorice and spice. Very deep with more structure, tobacco and spice than "Julie" or "Patricia". Better suited to heartier foods or as an addition to your cellar.

All of the 09 Corcia Chateauneuf-du-Pape cuvees represent great values for the price. The Cuvee Herve is more masculine and dark-fruited in style than the others. Aromas of blackberries, currant, sage and smoke intermingle in the nose which are echoed on the palate, which finishes with considerable tannic grip. Ditto Mr. Majeski with the slow-braised short ribs food pairing - this wine needs something hearty to chew on.

Brandish this bottle over a dinner of slow-braised short ribs, it possesses plenty of complex structure and stuffing to measure up to the most inspired dish. One of a polished lineup of Châteauneuf-du-Papes named for the children of Burgundy negociant Alain Corcia, the Hervé, along with the Eleazar, exemplified the most virility, weight and depth in the glass, with earthy tannins and a luxuriance of fruit often found in wines twice the price. A solid steal!

2009 is a spectacular vintage in the Southern Rhone and this is an amazing bargain for either drinking or cellaring. 40% of this wine is equal parts Syrah and Mourvedre which lends a deep, chewy quality to match to hearty food or to enhanced the ageing potential. This is quite earthy with both red and black fruit flavors and aromas of exotic flowers and pepper. This is a dark dense spicy wine to lay away or drink tonight.
