90 points Wines & Spirits "Exuberant flavors of strawberries and blackberries meld with this wine's firm structure. The depth of the fruit demands full-flavored dishes. Try it with braised lamb." (2/09) Casillero del Diablo’s regular bottlings are amongst Concha y Toro’s most popular wines. The reserva privada bottlings, however, are both popular and, occasionally as in this wine, quite impressive. Produced from 85% cabernet from their Pirque vineyard and 15% syrah from their famous Peumo vineyard, this wine has a savory edge to its intense, darker fruits, probably due to the syrah as well as the 14 months elevage in French oak. There is a hickory ember, slow burning smokiness that combines with the generous fruit and roasted meat quality to produce a wine that is hearty and warming during these cooler months of the year.
