Gonzalez Byass "Apóstoles" Palo Cortado VORS Jerez (375ml)

SKU #1062277 91 points Wine Spectator

Takes a flattering approach, featuring a lightly sweet, rounded edge to the date, blood orange, toasted pecan and fruitcake aromas and flavors, with toasted marshmallow and bourbon-glazed peach notes on the finish. Drink now. 600 cases made. (10/ 2013)

Jancis Robinson

A bit of sweetness fleshes out the palate and balances the acidity well; ripe fruits, salt, nuts, crème caramel and medicine. 17.5/20 points. (6/ 2010)

K&L Notes

VORS means "Very Old and Rare Sherry". The solera from which the sherry is sourced must be an average age of 30 years, and only the very best older soleras are able to put the VORS label on their wine. Gonzales Byass is one of the dwindling number of shippers with soleras of this age and quality. To be more precise, this solera of Palo Cortado (the rarest style of sherry in production) began in 1862, in honor of a vineyard visit by Queen Isabel II. That is an old solera! A bit of Pedro Ximenez is blended in here which adds some sweetness to this very old Palo Cortado. It's a singular bottling from one of the best known shippers in Jerez.

Beautiful burnt umber color with aromatic complex aromas of toffee, caramel, hazelnuts, and sea air. Only slightly oxidative aroma. On the palate medium-bodied, off-dry (from the 10% PX) initially, but somehow drier on the back palate, silky smooth, and balanced with nutty, toffee and dried fruit flavors with a very long finish. www.enofylzwineblog.com
Drink from 2009 to 2015
