Viñedo de los Vientos "Alcyone" Tannat Dessert Red Uruguay 500ml

I am not a big fan of Tannat. That being said. This dessert wine out of Uruguay is incredible! Made with 100 percent Tannat. The nose and palate boasts chocolate, cinnamon, vanilla and dark cherry. It goes perfect with dark chocolate. That my friends, is one of the toughest pairings to pull off.

I really enjoy tannat wine and I absolutely love interesting dessert wines so naturally this one caught my eye. Just like a tannat wine, the first thing you notice when you open the bottle or receive your glass is the fragrance. However, I wouldn't say it reminds me of a tannat wine at all. I think the bouquet reminds me of vanilla extract (in alcohol). When you taste it, the very same impression is made. It's got a rather strong vanilla flavor. This wine would make a very interesting flavor enhancer for fresh berries (or even a cobbler), fruit compote, or as part of a champagne cocktail. As a dessert wine, it's a bit difficult to enjoy on its own. I'm really glad I tried it and I want to find ways to enjoy it.
