A Best Buy, Wine Enthusiast: "The bouquet of cherry and raspberry is sprightly and mildy leafy, with hints of leather and dried cheese. The palate is whispy, with red-fruit flavors of raspberry and plum along with mild herbal notes, cocoa powder and dry spice. A basic, lighter-bodied Rioja with a traditional tilt." (02/11) According to the Wine Spectator: "Light, firm tannins support a pleasingly plump texture in this fresh red, which offers black cherry, leaf and tobacco notes, with a smoky finish. Drink now through 2013." (12/10) Bodegas Campo Viejo was born when two small, historic Rioja estates merged in 1959. The unusual name comes from the block of vineyard next to the original cellar, very old vines that the winemakers called "Old Friend" - Campo Viejo. This Crianza is 75% tempranillo, 20% granacha and 5% mazuelo. Cherry red with good depth, bright, golden glints. Powerful nose of red berries with sweet aromas of vanilla, coconut, toast and subtle spices. Soft flavors with a persistent, pleasant finish.
