1985 Krug "Collection" Brut Champagne

SKU #1060656 97 points Wine & Spirits

The cadence of this wine is mesmerizing, as mature notes and fresh red fruits pace each other into the distance, a pensive race with no end in sight. The aroma has the warm lift of sunlight on autumn leaves; the complex flavors are the essence of a fine red Burgundy. The energy in the wine is what lingers, a buzz that focuses thought (rather than the buzz from alcohol that would blur it). A pleasure to drink now, this has years ahead of it. (12/ 2008)

Animated and fresh, this is exotic on the nose and palate, with a finely woven tapestry of ground ginger, chamomile, pineapple pâte de fruit, grilled nut and biscuit flavors. Refined in texture and persistent on the long, truffle-laced finish. (12/ 2014)

The 1985 Brut Collection takes some time in the glass to finally open up. I love the way the 1985 turns burnished and vinous with air. Hazelnuts, ash, smoke and truffles are some of the nuances that flow from this rich, textured Collection. I have tasted the 1985 four times recently and this is one of the finer, fresher bottles I have sampled. (AG) (12/ 2010)
