The 2008 Clos Chanteduc is a fantastic example of what I am enjoying so much with this vintage. Fresh, bright and just a touch more light on its feet than the might 2007's, This medium bodied Rhone red is brimming with nuances of bright cherry, rosehip and fresh herbs. Clos Chanteduc is owned by none other than famed cookbook author and chef Patricia Wells, who divides her time between Provence and Paris. It comes as no surprise that this lovely red is incredibly food friendly and versatile as well. Kicking back with a glass 2008 Clos Chanteduc takes me strait to the south of France!

The 2008 Clos Chanteduc Cotes du Rhone is 65% grenache and 35% syrah, so the Robert Parker review quoted by K&L may have been written about a different vintage. Regardless, this is a very nice Cotes du Rhone with more body and balance than the typical offering in this price range. The grenache provides bright berry notes, while the finish has characteristic licorice and white pepper notes from the syrah.
