2008 Jean-Louis Denois "Les Garrigues" Vin de Pays D'Oc

SKU #1059983

Does Jean-Louis Denois ever fail to impress us? So far, this talented winemaker has an exceptional track record with K&L customers and staff alike. Denois' latest offering is this nifty little red that seriously over-delivers in the price-quality ratio department. The 2008 "Les Garrigues" is composed of Merlot (30%), Syrah (30%), Cabernet Sauvignon (20%), Cabernet Franc (10%) and Malbec (10%). It exhibits a gorgeous pomegranate color, with fresh aromas of small red berry fruit and delicate hints of spice box. Subtle notes of tobacco leaf and licorice provide extra dimension that belie this incredilby modest price tag. The cooler Languedoc vineyards from which this fruit is sourced undoubtedly contribute to its more modest alcohol level, making it very food friendly too! Enjoy a glass or two now and over the next few years with roast pork, grilled quail or seared ahi tuna with tapenade! 13% abv. (Mulan Chan-Randel, French Regional Wine Buyer)

what a crazy value! Denois always makes excellent wines for not that much money. THis bottle is basically the baby brother to his 'grand cuvee,' and it is a serious wine with plenty of dark of fruit, pepper, and a hint of leather - all at an unbelievable price point!

This is basically a Bordeaux blend or Meritage from the Limoux region of France. Dark and smooth but with great freshness this could easily pass for a $20.00 bottle in a blind tasting. there are flavors of plum, cocoa, cherry, licorice, spice and earth. For 8 bucks this is just stupid good........

Bright, flashy and distinctive, the 2008 Jean-Louis Denois “Les Garrigues” Vin de Pays D’Oc* ($7.99) is a wonderful Côtes du Rhône-type wine with distinctive and pronounced aromas of Bing cherries and purple plums, with subtle undertones of blackberries and cassis and soft, integrated, warm tannins. This is a near-term drinker that Anderson has deemed to be one of our house reds for the month, too.
Drink from 2010 to 2015

The 08 Denois "Les Garrigues" is a staple at my house. I can't think of a more satisfying go-to, all-purpose red for $7.99 than this fruity and supple blend of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec from Languedoc region of France. It also is a marvelous choice for parties because it's got it all: aromatics, fruit, structure, spice, and persistence - there's something for everyone to savor. The unique blend makes it extremely versatile on the table as well. Highly recommended!

This is your new weekend BBQ wine! Vibrant fruits, medium bodied, mellow tannins, lots of spice and just enough acidity to tie everything together on the finish.

I love cheap wines. Um, scratch that. I love inexpensive, well-made wines. Probably because I'm cheap. Err, not cheap, I meant to say frugal. Yeah, frugal. Frugal wine drinkers, rejoice! Here we have an honest wine that, despite its initial funk on the nose, has copious amounts of fresh juicy red fruit to enjoy on the palate. Long live the rustic, juicy mid-weight red.
