2009 La Hitaire Blanc "Les Tours" Vin de Pays des Côtes de Gascogne

SKU #1059838

La Hitaire estate was purchased by Yves Grassa over 20 years ago. At this time Yves planted Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon to the existing classic Gascony varietals. Today it is owned and worked by his two sons, Rémy and Armin, who are in their early thirties. The property lies about 10 miles from Domaine de Pouy. The vinification techniques used here were learned at Domaine de Pouy. All the grapes are picked in the early morning and the picking bins are lined with dry ice to keep the fruit cold and protect against oxidation. The fruit is them macerated cold between 6-10 hours to extract flavors from the skins. All of the wines here are made completely in stainless steel tank. These extra details insure the awesome quality that we have all come to expect from the Grassa family. "Les Tours" is a cuvée made from 65% Ugni Blanc, 30% Colombard and 5% Gros Mansang. All of the vines used in this cuvée are 50+ years old. This is a delicious, forward wine with intense orchard fruit scents and flavors. 10.5% abv.

At only 10.5% abv, this brisk, citrusy, high-acid white from Gascone is a refreshing, versatile, and food-friendly option for many occasions, from intimate cocktail party to a large wedding or other festive reception. Its zippy acidity and lemon-lime flavors make it a great match with with fresh seafood dishes, but it certainly doesn't need food to be enjoyed!

The Bean wants you to know that she has a much better palate than Eby when it comes to wine of this nature, and she recommends the 2009 Domaine La Hitaire “Les Tours” Vin de Pays Côtes de Gascogne Blanc. Created from Ugni Blanc (a varietal best known in California as the Wente brothers’ Grey Riesling way back when), this Gem offers up lime zest aromas and flavors with a really clean, crisp, mouthwatering set of flavors. This also will be one of our house whites for the month, according to the Beaner. 10.5% ABV (Jim Barr)
Drink from 2010 to 2013
