This new wave and super fruity value offers flashy and sexy aromas and flavors. Lush and lovely, you might think of it as a California style cab. 55% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot aged for 14 months in barrique. Yep, a lot like its much spendier neighbors. And, like the wines from those chateau around it, there is great Médoc character here with black fruits, nice structure and an extremely likeable freshness that makes this 2006 lovely to drink now.

Lush, forward style of wine with chocolate and dark fruit on the front, rich and attractive and fun to drink!

The 2006 Bordeaux have had a couple years to settle down and fill out and the lowere pedigree properties are drinking wonderfully right now. This is a flashier more modern bottling that manages to taste like true Medoc but with a slightly lusher personality. Black fruits, earth and a touch of spice fill out the mid-palate of this lovely bargain. Don't miss this.

For the California Cabernet drinker in your life. A modern style Bordeaux with ripe fruit and oak spice dominating the nose. The ripe mouthfeel is full of dark fruit and spice that carries through onto the long finish, with only slight astringency from the oak.

The description by K&L is right on: the 2006 Poitevin is fresh, fruity, well-balanced, and highly drinkable. A nice value for Bordeaux in this price range.

Cabernet Sauvignon and Blends

- Cabernet Sauvignon has come a long way from its role as a blending varietal, however dominant, in the wines of Bordeaux. Today it is the most planted red varietal in the world. Identified as a descendent of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc, the late-ripening Cabernet Sauvignon needs to be planted in warmer climates to fully ripen. Its small berries can easily be identified for their distinctive blue color, thick skins and high tannins. And while the varietal has its own definitive characteristics: green pepper-like aromas and black currant flavors among them, it is perhaps most prized for its ability to convey terroir, vintage and winemaking. A relatively new varietal, Cabernet Sauvignon started making inroads into the wines of the Médoc and Graves in the late-18th century. Today it is also dominant in the up-and-coming Entre-Deux-Mers region of Bordeaux and can also be found in Southwest France. It is the companion varietal to Sangiovese in Italy's Super Tuscans and is planted all over Europe, stretching to lesser-known winegrowing regions like Russia and Lebanon. In the Americas Cabernet Sauvignon has found champions in every nook and cranny of California and among winemakers in Washington, where it complements plantings of Merlot. In South America, Cab thrives in Chile, but can also be found in smaller amounts in Argentina and even in Mexico.
