95 points Wine Spectator: "This massively concentrated, unctuous Grüner is loaded with ripe peach, smoke and apricot flavors that feature accents of tropical fruit. The powerful finish is filled with an alluring mix of cream, slate, smoke and spice. Drink now through 2019." 1,048 cases imported. –KM 93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Nov/Dec 08: "Pale yellow-green. A complex bouquet exhibits fully ripe yellow peach, intense mango and lime accompanied by flinty minerality. Complex and juicy in the mouth, with an apricot flavor framed by racy yet marvelously integrated acidity. Finishing flavors of lemon and wet dark slate linger impressively. This wine should benefit tremendously from further bottle aging and boasts terrific potential. Drink 2010 to 2022." 91-92 points Parker's Wine Advocate: "A piquant nose of citrus oil, toasted nuts, and pepper in the Knoll 2007 Gruner Veltliner Smaragd Loibenberg segues into a rich matrix of ripe white peach and lychee, offering another example of the delightful counterpoint that these wines can achieve between richness and pungent phenolic cut, the latter exemplified by pronounced lemon zest, white pepper, and bitter herbal notes in the finish. Marginally less flattering today than the Schutt, I suspect this will become the more interesting wine over the course of 7-9 years." (02/09)
