92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From the geologically distinctive, diminutive Eiserberg vineyard along the Rhine, Spreitzer’s flagship 2008 Oestricher Lenchen Riesling Spatlese 303 (for more on whose origins - and an explanation of whose name - consult issue 161) smells of gardenia, marzipan, very ripe honeydew melon, white peach, and mango. For all of its obviously ripe aromatics, this proves refreshingly juicy (grapefruit and lime coming to its aid), delicate, and intricately complex in its interplay of fruity, saline mineral, liquidly floral perfume, spicy, subtly fungal elements, which reach formidable intensity in the wine’s finish. The sort of overt creaminess and near unctuousness that have so often characterized this bottling give way to a wine of much more vivacity and transparency than usual, although a sense of glycerin-richness is obvious. This will last 20 or more years, in the process exposing many further facets." (02/10)
