A terrific Zinfandel, with a polished, pretty structure and ripe, vibrantly classic Zinny flavors. Floods the mouth with berries, cola, licorice, mocha and dusty spices, wrapped into beautifully fine, ripe tannins. Impossible to resist sip after sip. Defines Russian River Zinfandel at its best. (3/ 2010)
Opaque purple. Powerfully scented bouquet of dark berries, candied cherry, licorice and fresh violet. Deep blackberry and blueberry flavors coat the palate, picking up floral pastille and mocha qualities with air. Becomes spicier and tangier on the finish, which strongly echoes the mocha note. This is showing the most richness of this set and would benefit the most from cellaring, I suspect. (6/ 2009)
Second to the Big River bottling in seeming weight, but surpassed in structure and ageworthiness both by the Teldeschi and by the Old Hill, this quite lovely bottling is a touch riper than it is zesty and keenly fruity. Rather it trades on depth and on its distinct blackberry focus, and it needs but a few years of aging to hit its peak. (1/ 2010)
