In its currant young stage you get a big hit of fruit right up front and then the balance of acidity and minerality leave a clean pure sense of fruit on the back end which seems to go on for a really long time. Although absolutely fantastic now, this will only get better with time, say 5 - 10 years.

Have you ever had truffle-infused honey as an accent to a cheese platter? This wine transports me to that very amazing combination of flavors and sensations one gets with a simple bite of savory, nutty, cheese mixed with sweet, waxy honey and earthy, intense truffle. Bracingly high acidity in this off-dry wine make it anything but "desserty" in style. With subtle petrol and citrusy accents, it is Riesling-like in some ways, but much broader on the palate. A long, honeyed finish leaves the taste buds yearning for more. I'd serve this before before a meal on its own or accompanied by simple, salted nuts, or after dinner, with strong cheeses.

I hesitate to call this beauty a dessert wine because it is anything but, however many of you will think of it that way because it is sweet. This is super comples with an array of orange, tangerine, honey, spice and dried tropical fruit (coconut?) The amazing minerality and bracing acidity combine with the richness of flavor to create a vibrant sweet/tart impression on the palate. Drink this with cheeses or on its own. This will wow your friends.

Domaine des Baumard always scores high points with the critics and there's a reason why...the wines are beautiful. The 2007 Clos Ste Catherine starts off with a toasty, leesy nose full of sweet carmalized fruit and the tiniest touch of salty earth. Sweet stone fruit on the palate, this chenin blanc is ideal for the riesling lover who is looking to expand their repertoire.

A rich wine that is well-balanced thanks to a good dose of acidity. Delicious but a little goes a long way.

Chenin Blanc

- Also called Pineau de la Loire and Pineau d'Anjou. Chenin Blanc is an expressive white French varietal that makes beautiful dry, sweet and sparkling wines.
