2000 Hatzimichalis Xinomavro Naoussa

SKU #1055971

If the word Xinomavro scares you, just think of Nebiolo from Northern Italy. Made from 100% Xinomavro from the Naussa region, within Macedonia, this is a fantastic representation of what Xinomavro is and its potential. Lighter in color with a ruby tinge this has an array of savory baking spices and bright cherries. Ample but integrated tannins balance out its high toned structure. Drink now or within the next couple of years.

This wowed me at a recent staff tasting. 100% Xinimavro grape, aged 10 years and only 14 bucks-amazing. This has super expressive aromas of flowers and dried herbs along with complex cherry fruit flavors. Our buyer Eric says this reminds him of a N.Italian Nebiolo, but with its fine, dry leathery finish it makes me think of an aged Rioja. Give this a try.

Wow, this is a steal AND an educational experience, first xinomavro for me. Very italianesque in it's dry cherry, plum and spicy as heck leather pallate. superdooper! 89.

Greece

- We have the Greeks to thank for introducing wine into Italy and France. And while the legacy of ancient Greek culture lives on, little recognition is given to its modern-day contributions to the wine industry. From the Peloponnese in the south, to Macedonia and Epirus in the north, and islands like Crete, Samos and Santorini, fine wine is once again being made and most of it from indigenous grape varieties not grown in other countries. Styles range from hearty, rustic reds to crisp, neutral whites and heavenly dessert wines. Click for a list of bestselling items from Greece.
