 The 2006 Lamaione (Merlot) is impressive for the sheer depth and clarity of its fruit. With time in the glass graphite, grilled herbs, minerals and licorice emerge, adding further complexity to the expressive, vibrant blackberry and blueberry fruit. The wine’s length, freshness and structure are all first-class. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2021.  (4/ 2010)

Frescobaldi's Lamaione is made entirely from Merlot grapes grown in the 12-acre Lamaione Vineyard at Tenuta di Castelgiocondo. Rich and powerful, as you would expect from Frescobaldi, the Lamaione entices with scents of black plum, boysenberry, peppery spice and savory herbs. The palate is rounds and warm, with silky tannins and black fruit flavors complemented by vanilla, bittersweet cocoa, pipe tobacco and sweet herbs. While quite polished now, this will benefit from a few years in your cellar, after which it can be enjoyed with roasted meats, aged cheeses and anything with mushrooms or truffles.
