This amazing wine immediately captures your attention with its enticing grapefruit aroma. The mouth feel is very clean, fresh and dry with flavors of citrus and flintiness dominating. We recommend it as a good food wine, easily paired with Asian and southwestern dishes. Try this very simple summer and autumn dish: Roast ears of corn on the barbecue and then slather them with chipotle butter and top them with chopped cilantro and a bit of grated Queso Fresco. The spicy, smoky flavors are sure to send you back for seconds. And don’t forget the Gewurztraminer!

Clean, dry and refreshing, this is a light, delicate take on the varietal. The 2008 shows admirable acidity, especially when you consider Napa Gewurztraminer's tendency to lean to the softer side, but, then, it IS a Stony Hill bottling, so I suppose that won't be too much of a shock for those of you who are familiar with the winery. The aromas are a restrained variant of the classic floral-spicy profile, and the florality picks up a little sweetness in the mouth, yet stays dry and light. I should add that it is very pleasant to see a California wine coming in at 12% ABV, as this does.

Gewurztraminer

- Thought to have originated in the city of Tramin in Italy's Alto Adige, Gewürztraminer is actually a pink-skinned incarnation of the Traminer varietal, and also the most widely planted variation. Known for its heady perfume redolent of rose petals and spice and tropical lychee flavor, its fuller body and moderate acidity, it can be made in a variety of styles ranging from completely dry to sweet late harvest wines. The best representations of the grape are grown in Austria and France's Alsace, though it's being made in smaller quantities in Eastern Europe, Italy, the Pacific Northwest, California, New Zealand and Australia.
