90 points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This is as good a deal as you are going to get from Priorat. The deep purple-colored 2007 La Cartuja is 50% Garnacha, 30% Carinena and the balance Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. It offers up an enticing nose of roasted minerals, lavender, incense, black cherry, and blueberry. On the palate it has good grip, savory flavors, and a lengthy finish." (06/09) I completely agree with this review. The price of admission for good Priorat is usually about $20, but below $15 usually won't get you a bottle that tastes much like Priorat, let alone a bottle that is worth drinking. However, the La Cartuja looks to be the exception to the rule. It is full of the warm, blueberry and baking spice flavors typical of the region, with loads of character for the price.. This is Priorat that should be drunk now, and as fun and juicy as the wine is drinking it now should not be a problem. La Cartuja just might be my pick for Spanish party wine of 2009.
