96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Syrah Brookman Vineyard exhibits a complex array of toasty oak, violets, espresso, tar, blackberry, and blueberry. Like its siblings, it is opulent, sleek, and rich. It can be enjoyed over the next 20-25 years." (10/07) 95 points Wine Spectator: "Ripe, supple and beautifully balanced, with a pretty violet tinge to the rich aromas of blackberry and cherry. Supported by super refined tannins, this rockets over the palate, hinting at smoky spice and cream as the finish lingers effortlessly. Best from 2009 through 2020." (10/07) 92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Opaque violet. Blueberry, cassis, vanilla and molasses on the nose, with slow-building tar and black cardamom qualities. Sappy, velvety, deeply concentrated kirsch and dark berry liqueur flavors boast palate-saturating sweetness. Chewing tobacco and candied licorice add complexity to the long, sweet finish. I suppose that there are tannins here but the sweetness seems to have left them for dead." (Sept/Oct 2007)
