This is a wine to be drunk from a jelly jar. Smooth, velvety, rich dark fruit well suited for a slight chill. Great for a picnic or a party, and perfect for my sangria recipe. Shoot me an email and I'll be thrilled to share it with you.

I have sold this wine over the course of 20 years now. Some vintages are better than others, and I find this one of their best! Great value and classic Amador County Zinfandel.

This is not your big SUV Zinfandel! With all the traditional characteristics Zin lovers want minus the heavy handed fruit and alcohol, this value driven beauty is extremely versatile for food pairings. This more “genteel” style Zin is an ideal choice for picnic fair—it will compliment without overpowering.

This has been our best selling Zinfandel for several years now and it's still only 10 bucks. This has the big fruit component you associate with Amador Zin but without the huge, jammy body that can overwhelm many foods. Medium weight, fresh, complex and organic, this is a no-brainer for parties, informal get-togethers and any Tuesday night.

Contrary to the other reviews, this does strike me a big zin (despite the somewhat restrained alcohol level). Not that that is a bad thing. Big fruit and spice flavors deliver a big bang for your buck. Highly recommended if you are a fan of zinfandel.

Zinfandel

- The bid to name Zinfandel California's "State Varietal" may have failed, but this red wine grape, grown extensively in California since the mid-1800s, is grown in few other places in the world. Sadly, much of what's cultivated today is planted where it's too hot and flat. But when planted to well-drained, hillside vineyards that are warm but not too hot, like those in Sonoma County's Dry Creek Valley and Amador County in the Sierra Foothills, Zinfandel can produce wines with plenty of character. High in natural alcohol and tannin, grown carefully it can be rich and complex, with dark fruit berry fruit and peppery spice. The most known example of Zinfandel outside of California is Italy's Primitivo, which can be similar in style, but is often a bit lighter and less alcoholic than West Coast examples.

- This sweeping inland territory (an AVA on its own right), encompassing El Dorado, Fiddletown, Shenandoah and Amador, has been on the grape-growing map since the Gold Rush. With the exception of high-altitude El Dorado, the vineyards here are sun-baked and hot—in other words, best suited to old-vine zinfandel, petit sirah and Rhône varietals. The cooler climes of El Dorado are ideal for cabernet, chardonnay and merlot.
