The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon is a dead-ringer for a Napa version of the famed Pauillac, Pontet-Canet. Charcoal, creme de cassis, unsmoked cigar tobacco, and earthy characteristics are present in its fragrant bouquet. It possesses sweet tannin, a full-bodied mouthfeel, and immediate accessibility, although it can be cellared for 15 more years. (12/ 2008)
Another fabulous release from Lewelling, who undoubtably prove themselves again and again, vintage after vintage. Their 2006 St. Helena Cab is aged for 16 months in 96% French and 4% American oak, the latter adding texture and exotic spice on the nose and palate. This is the earthier of the two Lewelling wines K&L carries, with deep briary fruit and bittersweet cocoa flavors that linger on your palate along with substantial tannins. While this wine is quite approachable now, it will benefit from some air or age.
