What happens when you put together 47% Cabernet Franc, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Syrah, 4% Merlot, 3% Malbec, and 3% Petit Verdot? Well, in this case you get the 3CV Bank Blend. This 300-case production wine comes from Cimarone's organically-grown Three Creek Vineyard in the Happy Canyon sub-appellation of the Santa Ynez Valley, and it is made by Happy Canyon champion Doug Margerum. (Magerum has been instrumental in helping Happy Canyon obtain its own AVA, which has been approved but is not yet in effect.) This Bordeaux blend with a twist caught me by storm with a nose full of cedar, cigar smoke, espresso and anisette. Forward, fruity and fun, this is a wine that is meant to be enjoyed now with all of its tangy raspberry, black plum and boysenberry fruit. Add a dusting of fine tannins towards the finish and this wine comes off as being very complete and fleshy, a steal for $20 a bottle. (Bryan Brick, K&L)
