90 points from Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Inky violet. Textbook syrah aromas of cassis, cherry skin, violet, black olive and cracked pepper, with a slow-building note of licorice. Sappy, penetrating dark fruit flavors are framed by silky tannins and given spine by juicy acidity. The lingering, focused finish leaves notes of pepper and candied flowers behind." (May/Jun '10) This is the second label of the very excellent and very remote Peay Vineyards, which just happens to own the coldest Syrah vineyard in the United States! Violets, white pepper, blueberries and a slight meatiness, this is classic Syrah, and a wonderful bargain to boot!
