This just-released, super-special, barrel-aged beer from Russian River Brewing Company is like the DRC of beer. The Tempation is aged in French oak wine barrels that used to hold Chardonnay, which impart some of that character to the blonde ale base, as well as the brettanomyces yeast, which many consider bad for wine (debatable), but great for beer. The beer is then re-fermented in bottle (bottle-conditioned) like a Champagne, to give it fine, yielding bubbles. This is a rare beer to share with good friends over a meal and well-worth the splurge. It is, of course, enjoyable now, but it promises a wonderful evolution in bottle if you choose to age it in your cellar.
