2008 Pascal Janvier "Cuvée du Rosier" Coteaux du Loir (Previously $17)

SKU #1049414

Pascal Janvier ekes out a living from a series of tiny, stony hillside vineyards along the Loir River (a tributary of the Loire River), north of Vouvray. Though he is best known for his white Chenin Blanc-based wines, he also makes excellent use from 1.7 hectares of red Coteaux du Loir. This is 100% Pineau d’Aunis and it is deisgned by Pascal to be an instantly drinkable, beautifully aromatic thirst-quenching red. It really shines with picnic fare, such as chicken salad.

Lovely perfume flowers, damp earth and pomegranite fruit. If you are not familiar with the wines of the Loir (a tributary to the Loire river) this is one of the best producers to start with. Serve with a hint of a chill and go to town.

I like red Loire wines, especially when they're made from interesting grapes like Pinot d'Aunis and have a peppery, perfumey nose and a mouthful of juicy fruit and violets, with a lighter yet slightly tannic body. That is why I like the Janvier, because it tastes exactly like what I just described.

An enjoyable light red with a very distinctive peppery aroma and crisp texture.
