2006 Viña Robles "Huerhuero" Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon

90 points and an "Editors' Choice" designation from Wine Enthusiast: "Backed up by a fine structure of tangy acidity and rich, ripe tannins, this Cab shows a fine complexity of flavor. Blackberries, black currants, dark unsweetened chocolate, plums, anise, raisins and pepper mingle on the palate, leading to a long, distinguished finish." (8/1/2009) The new find from Viña Robles this time around was the ultra-affordable Cabernet Sauvignon. It is rare that we use those words together these days, but we couldn't be more jazzed about this gulpable, no stress, no wallet shock Cab. A varietally correct nose of cedar, dried currants and cigar smoke battles with a more new world influenced lean of cola and nutmeg. The flavors here are more savory at first - green tea, thyme, marjoram - but don't be misled. If you hang in there for a few moments waves of raspberry, black cherry and boysenberry wash over the palate, and when they draw back you're left with a refreshing note of fresh plum. A super-fine tannin holds the cornucopia of flavors together long enough to make this every bit as drinkable on day two as it is on the day it was opened. (Bryan Brick, K&L)
