The 2007 Chardonnay is a medium-bodied wine that shows great balance of pear and apple fruit along with hints of minerality, creme brulee and apricot. One of the most famed and consistent producers of Central Coast Chardonnay, Chalone has once again fashioned an outstanding and affordable Chardonnay in 2007. Chalone was one of the first wineries to realize the vast potential of the Central Coast to grow both world-class Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes. The first vintage to be produced under the Chalone label was in 1966 and from that humble beginning the name Chalone has become synonymous with Central Coast Chardonnay. The 2007 Chalone Chardonnay is a great example of what heights this region is capable of reaching with a wine that has vibrant nose of honey, acacia flowers and racy tropical fruit aromas. On the palate, this wine displays admirable balance and weight with gorgeous fruit, racy minerality and a honeyed richness that makes this wine irresistible. If you're looking for a knock-out Chardonnay for under $20 then this is the wine for you.

- It's hard to believe that up until about 30 years ago, this extremely popular varietal hid behind the veil of geographical names like Chablis and Puligny-Montrachet. Now grown all over the world and bottled by its varietal name, Chardonnay has achieved a level of branding unlike any other wine. Surprisingly, though, what you get when you buy Chardonnay can differ greatly from country to country and even within one country, depending on the climate where it's grown and how it is vinified and aged. From fresh, crisp and minerally with apple and lemon notes to rich and buttery with tropical fruit overtones, Chardonnay runs the gamut. In France's Burgundy, Chardonnay is the source of the prized wines of Chablis, Corton-Charlemagne, Mācon, Meursault and Montrachet. It also the foundation of exceptional Champagne, where it is blended with Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier or vinified on its own into Blanc de Blancs.
