2008 Château Viranel "Tradition" Saint Chinian Rosé (Previously $13)

SKU #1048844

Château Viranel is a small family run domaine located in the picturesque Languedoc appellation of Saint-Chinian. The domaine's rosé is perfect for an apéritif but is also ideal served throughout a meal because of its richness and volume on the palate. Pretty rose petal color. An intense nose of summer fruits (blackberry, raspberry, blackcurrant) and a fresh and fruity attack. Round mouth, smooth, very elegant. The finish is full-bodied and rich. A truly gastronomic rosé from 40% Syrah, 40% Grenache noir and 20% Cinsault, made by drawing off for Grenache and Syrah. It is an extremely versatile rosé to enjoy with a plethora of dishes including summer barbecues, salads, tagine with prunes, paella, andalucian gazpacho, terrine of spring vegetables, beef carpaccio, stuffed vegetables, roasted peppers, salmon cakes, ratatouille and many other delicious dishes to match your culinary expertise! 12.5-14% abv.

One of my favorite Roses of this season for sure. I find it full of flavor, some richness, dry but not austere and just a pleasure to drink really. The flavor profile I'll concur with my coleagues' reviews. For the pairings, besides those suggested above I would add a Salt Cod with garlic and Roasted Potatoes, Sweet and Sour Chiken, Seafood Pizza, and a Grilled Polenta with Garlic Shrimp and Rosemary. All of which I had the pleasure to enjoy with this very same wine.

For those of you who enjoy a lighter, more delicate rose a la provencale, the Chateau Viranel is your wine. Whisps of wild strawberry, mint and mineral on a totally dry frame, make the Viranel rose my go to when I a more delicate pink is what I desire. Located deep in the Languedoc, the appellation of Saint Chinian is one of the most charming regions in the Midi, and one producing excellent wines as well.

Lots of raspberry and some mineral and spice. A nice dry rose with substance.
