(12/07) The 2005 Keenan Spring Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon has taken a huge step forward in that, for the first time, enough of the fruit (86% to be precise) is from the mountain and is designated as such. The rest of this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon is from the Pope Valley, an up-and-coming area in its own right. Full of Bing cherry, cinnamon stick and pipe smoke, this has a nose packed full of goodness. Currants, both black and red, are on full display here alongside the highlights of pine and spearmint. Texturally the wine has a creaminess that never is overbearing or clumsy. Grippy but fine tannins hold this all together and will continue to do so for the next 10-12 years. (Bryan Brick, K&L)
