90 points and an "Editors' Choice" from Wine Enthusiast: "A fine, dry Sauvignon Blanc. Dry and crisp in acidity with flavors of lemon, limes, figs, vanilla, honeysuckle and a nice tangy streak of lemongrass. No oak was applied but the richness of the lees shows in the butter cream." (08/09) One of the surprise finds of 2008 were the wines from a smallish winery in Paso Robles called Viña Robles. Some of you may remember the 2007 Sauvignon Blanc and the 2006 Petite Sirah that we were pushing in the fall and winter of 2008. We think that the 2008 vintage of the SB is even better than the 2007 vintage. The 2008, like the 2007, sees not a lick of oak and no malolactic fermentation takes place. In other words, this is crisp and fresh and perfect for any warm weather occasion. The aromas of mandarin and quince are framed nicely in a grassier tone of fresh alfalfa, there is also understated tropical note here that is less rambunctious than most. There is a sense of something underlying rather than dominating, simply easing you in to the tangerine and Meyer lemon flavors that are prevalent throughout the wine. But what really impressed me is the way this young wine has already meshed together so well. It is seamless and has nary a rough edge. If you need a refreshing adult beverage this is for you. If you don't like delicious flavors, well you may just want to drink a bottle of warm water next time out. (Bryan Brick, K&L)
