2007 Cave de Rasteau "Dame Victoria" Côtes du Rhône-Villages Rasteau (Previously $14)

SKU #1048086

An award winner at many French wine competitions, the Dame Victoria is an impressive Rhone red raised not far from the fabled vineyards of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Warmly fruited and full of robust, rustic character, the nose offers minerality and blue fruit notes, which are echoed on the palate and joined with berries, berries and more berries. Elegant on the supple finish, this is just the red to pair with chicken, burgers, roasts and cheesy vegetarian dishes. 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre. 14.5%abv.

This is an awesome value from the fantastic 2007 Rhone vintage. It has it all, ripe fruit, solid herbaciousness and a touch of leatheriness and solid but well integrated tannins. Delicious!

There are many wonderful options from the 2007 vintage from the Southern Rhone in stock right now. The secret is to find the best values, and this blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 10% Mourvedre from the village of Rasteau in the Rhone is one not to miss. It is full of red fruit, spice, and a touch of smokey, earthiness. The palate is rich, with a deep core of ripe fruit flavor. The long finish and balanced acidity shows off its special origins. I like to serve it from carafes at large dinner parties. It is a food-friendly, delicious table red that, well, will help keep you out of the red come party time.

Here is another Rhone from the 2007 vintage that exceeds its price in quality. On the nose lots of floral, herbs and blackberry fruit. The wine has nice structure with good acidity and prominent tannins with dried herbs and black fruit.
Top Value!

The 2007 vintage from the Rhone Valley is fantastic and the "Dame Victoria" is the perfect example of why. I loved this wine in 2006 but in 2007 its gone to a whole new level. While the 2006 had the amazing floral and spice aromatics with tons of precise berry fruit that the '07 has, its how beautifully integrated the tannins are, without losing its rustic charm, that make the '07 top notch.

A perfect wine for those willing to venture into the "old world" but not still fully commited to do so. Full of dark berries and soft tannins but with plenty of the Rhone spices and elegance. A Coq-au-Vin will be delicious with it, also a Basque Chicken, Roast Duck, Turkey with traditional trimmings, Gratin Dauphinois and how about a decadent dish of Goose stuffed with prunes?

The Dame Victoria is a beautiful, silky wine with enough that you would be proud to serve to any guests, no matter how much of a wine critic they may be. This is a wine to serve with our without food, but if you're going to serve food, it deserves something nice. Layered, complex, with a little vanilla and a lot of red fruit, it makes you say, Wow.

Country:

France

- When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Sub-Region:

Rhone

- Legendary wine-producing region in southeast France. Stereotypically speaking, Rhone wines are high in alcohol, and the majority produced is red. The northern Rhone is best known for outstanding 100% Syrah wines from areas such as Cote Rotie and Hermitage, as well as for fabulous white wines from Condrieu (where Viognier is king). In the southern Rhone, look for spicy, full-bodied wines that are blends of Grenache, Syrah, and other varietals coming from appellations such as Chateauneuf du Pape, Gigondas, or Rasteau. Wines labeled as Cote du Rhone or Cotes du Rhone Village (a cut above generic Cotes du Rhone) are frequently found here in the US because they often represent some of the best values on the market.
