I tend to shy away from domestic Sauvignon Blancs. Usually they are a bit too rich for me, but not this one. It's from Lake County and fermented in all stainless steel. Crisp, racy and refreshing, just the way I like it. Try it on a hot day.

I love Sauvignon Blanc from just about anywhere, from British Columbia to the tip of the African continent, and all points in between. It's one the wines I think California does best, and often times, the lesser expensive versions are more preferable (not enough money for things like oak or heavy handed interventionist wine making). This is a great example of such a wine. Fresh, snappy, stainless steel fermented SB in a sligthly fuller style with all the tell tale grass and citrus, but also some pretty guava and papaya. A fun wine to have on hand for any occasion which a little white wine could make the good times roll a little better.

What a discovery this wine was! Great Sauvignon Blanc at an unbelievable price. A hint of spice and tropical fruit on the nose. Rich mango and casaba melon. Dry, crisp and refreshing. This could be your new house white for the summer.

I thought this wine was delightfuly crispy, refreshing and full of citrous fruit. Perfect for cocktail parties, an aperitive before dinner or lunch outside by the pool.

A wonderful, clean and crisp Sauvignon Blanc that has loads of citrus fruit, lychee and grapefruit. All stainless steel fermentation and no oak. A perfectly zippy wine that is made for the summertime! Great with oysters, chicken, pork and salad. Inexpensive enough for everyday drinking. For those of you who are not attracted to heavy, oily whites that are over oaked!

This is one of our best-kept domestic Sauvignon Blanc secrets. If you love crisp, Loire Valley-/Sancerre- style Sauvignon Blanc, you will love the fresh, citrus fruit and minerality of this light-bodied white. And you will love it even more when you recall the under $10 price tag. A great "cocktail" wine, this is a go-to wine for wedding receptions and large parties.

Sauvignon Blanc

- One of the best known "international" varieties originally cultivated in France and considered the parent of, with Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon. Sauvignon's wonderfully distinctive aromatics generate some of wine's most colorful descriptors, among them "cat pee," herbaceous, grassy, citrusy the world over. In France, the apex of Sauvignon Blanc production is the Loire Valley, in the appellations of Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé, where the terroir expresses itself most beautifully through the grape. Sauvignon Blanc is also the leading white grape varietal in Bordeaux, where it is paired with the fatter, richer Sémillon to varying degrees. Relatively easy to cultivate, though more suited to cool climates, Sauvignon Blanc has made inroads in Europe outside of France, especially in Northeastern Italy's Friuli and Alto Adige, but also on the Slovenian border. These lovely wines are often overshadowed by Sauvignon Blanc's achievements in the New World, namely New Zealand, South Africa and California. New Zealand's Sauvignon Blancs, more conspicuously fruity than most French examples, landed the small island nation on the world wine map in the late-1980s and 1990s. South African Sauvignons are one of the most successful international varieties produced in that country and are often quite elegant and affordable. In California, Robert Mondavi managed to, almost single-handedly, created a market for Sauvignon Blanc by renaming his oak-fermented version Fumé Blanc. While some wineries still use the name, California Sauvignon Blanc has secured its place in the California wine pantheon, particularly those from the Napa Valley. Washington State, Chile and Argentina also have considerable plantings of the grape.
