"The 2006 Yattarna holds true to its Aboriginal name - gradually & impressively opening up in the glass, maturing with time in the cellar - with patience." (Peter Gago - Penfolds Chief Winemaker) A consistent high-performer, Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar has rated the Yattarna Chardonnay 91 points or higher since the 2002 vintage, saying of the 93-point 2005: "Light greenish-yellow color. Smoky melon and white peach aromas are ripe and inviting, with subtle sweet butter and lemon notes adding complexity. Light on its feet but deep in citrus and pit fruit flavors, picking up dusty minerals with air. Finishes with impressive cut and excellent mineral-driven persistence. Reminded me of a top-notch Puligny from a ripe vintage, and the 55% new French oak component never intruded." (Sept/Oct '08)
