1989 Warre's "Quinta Da Cavadinha" Port

SKU #1047554

This is a quite special single Quinta offering, and makes me wonder how good other 1989's could be! We tasted this with Mr. Dominic Symington and I was quite surprised at how delicious this mature port was for such a reasonable price. This wine has the elegance that one would expect from a Warre vintage proper, and a texture that surpasses many straight vintage ports that I have had of late. I would not keep it forever, but it should drink very, very well over the next 10 or so years. This Cavadinha is located in the upper Duoro in a relatively cool micro climate. The majority of grapes in the blend come from old mixed plantings, and the leading varietal is Touriga Nacional. This is bottled early- just like regular vintage port, and will need some time to settle after being purchased. Please decant this wonderful port! -Gary Westby, K&L

The Douro Valley of Portugal is the original and current home for the world's finest Port. The valley spans from east of the city of Oporto all the way to the border of Spain and is the country's best known wine region. Lesser-appreciated DOCs like Bairrada and D„o area also emerging for their fine, rustic reds. Click for a list of bestselling items from Portugal.

Port

- Port is a fortified wine made by stopping the fermentation with brandy. The result is a heavy sweet wine, most often red, that is dense, rich and high in alcohol. Port is made all over the world with some great results in Australia and South Africa, but the most famous of these dessert wines come from Portugal. The great port houses (or lodges) are located along the Duoro River on the steep slate slopes high above the valley floor. There are several styles of port, including Ruby, Tawny, Vintage Character, Late Bottle Vintage, Colheita, and Single Quinta. Vintage ports are made in special years that the houses declare.
