88-90 points Robert Parker: "Although this big, boldly-styled Kirwan is less concentrated than some recent vintages have been, it is an impressive effort revealing a dense ruby/purple color as well as aromas of new oak, black currants, roasted herbs, and graphite. Full and rich with plenty of tannin to shed, although the tannins are melted and unaggressive (fondu as the French would say), this 2008 should evolve for two decades or more." (04/09) 88-90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Caramel new wood aromas are followed by spice and toast flavors. The fruit seems thin by comparison, hard to feel under all that polished toast. (04/09) According to James Suckling of Wine Spectator: "Blackberry and licorice aromas lead to a medium body, with fine tannins and a medium finish." (04/09)
