2007 Patient Cottat Sauvignon Blanc

This delicious wine comes from a combination of vineyard sites both in Verdigny in Sancerre and some parcels just outside the appellation to the west. The Fournier family, with roots as deep as their vines in this region seem to be related to just about everyone in some way and have for generations been farming and producing wines in Sancerre. We are pleased to have been offered this wine, yet again, at such a great price. Soft, subtle mineral notes are wrapped up in aromatics of melon and citrus. Clean, bright and refreshing - This is a perfect little Sauvignon Blanc to enjoy while having a lite lunch in the afternoon sun or getting your evening kicked off.

This is one of the most oft reviewed wines by the staff here at K&L as everyone who tastes it is so stunned by how good it is, especially given it's meager price tag. So allow me to chime in; I'm stunned by how good this wine is, especially given it's meager price tag! It really is sensational. Essentially declassified Sancerre, this wine has all the spicy, grassy, minerally goodness of that appellation with some nice fat melon in the mid palate, a touch of honey from the extra year in the bottle, and some tangy, racy acidity to finish it. Lovely wine, please grace many a summer evening with it as an aperitif or perhaps with some pan seared trout. CM

If you love the white wines of Sancerre but not the price tag, the 2007 Patient Cottat is the way to go. 100% Sauvignon Blanc from parcels in Verdigny and just outside the official boundary, this wine is has Sancerre in its veins but can't be legally labeled as such. It is crisp and refreshing with mouth-watering acidity, supported by tangy lime and melon fruit flavors. It is a little brighter and more mineral-driven than the 06, much to my liking. This wine is a perfect choice for wedding or party white where you must serve an elegant, quality wine to guests with discerning palates (translation: wine snobs) but fit within a budget.

There are a lot of Sauvignon Blancs in the $10 price range, but few will offer as much as the Patient Cottat. Very much a Sancerre-style wine for only $10.99. On the nose are melon and citrus notes with the palate showing lots of minerality.

Just keep a bottle of this in your fridge at all times. You will sip it while making dinner, pour some INTO your dinner, drink it in *place* of dinner? Also a very nice party wine, this Sauv Blanc is done in a fresh classic style that everyone will enjoy.

"clean, bright, refreshing" and D U L L. Overrated fake-out and a poor comparison to Sancerres stable of delicious vintages. Dont waste your time and money with this feeble imposter.

For the price it's a very reasonable bright French Sauvignon Blanc. There are no 'off' flavors.

Citrus and talc aromas, with flinty, mineral flavors and crisp acidity. Delicious both on its own and with goat cheese. Combined with fresh lemon juice and dill makes a great marinade for chicken kabobs.

Sauvignon Blanc

- One of the best known "international" varieties originally cultivated in France and considered the parent of, with Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon. Sauvignon's wonderfully distinctive aromatics generate some of wine's most colorful descriptors, among them "cat pee," herbaceous, grassy, citrusy the world over. In France, the apex of Sauvignon Blanc production is the Loire Valley, in the appellations of Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé, where the terroir expresses itself most beautifully through the grape. Sauvignon Blanc is also the leading white grape varietal in Bordeaux, where it is paired with the fatter, richer Sémillon to varying degrees. Relatively easy to cultivate, though more suited to cool climates, Sauvignon Blanc has made inroads in Europe outside of France, especially in Northeastern Italy's Friuli and Alto Adige, but also on the Slovenian border. These lovely wines are often overshadowed by Sauvignon Blanc's achievements in the New World, namely New Zealand, South Africa and California. New Zealand's Sauvignon Blancs, more conspicuously fruity than most French examples, landed the small island nation on the world wine map in the late-1980s and 1990s. South African Sauvignons are one of the most successful international varieties produced in that country and are often quite elegant and affordable. In California, Robert Mondavi managed to, almost single-handedly, created a market for Sauvignon Blanc by renaming his oak-fermented version Fumé Blanc. While some wineries still use the name, California Sauvignon Blanc has secured its place in the California wine pantheon, particularly those from the Napa Valley. Washington State, Chile and Argentina also have considerable plantings of the grape.
