95-99 points Robert Parker: "I have had so many terrific examples of the Chateauneuf du Pape Chaupin that it’s hard to say the 2007 is the finest of all, but it is truly an amazing, old vine Grenache cuvee. Just under 20,000 bottles were produced from sand and clay soils. This inky/purple-colored wine reveals exquisite aromatic fireworks consisting of creme de cassis, black raspberries, licorice, incense, and spice, awesome fruit, major concentration, and a serious finish of close to a minute. For a wine of such enormous size, it is remarkable for its overall equilibrium and freshness." (10/08) 93-96 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep ruby. Sexy, perfumed bouquet of red berries, cherry, minerals and fresh flowers. Silky, finely etched raspberry and black cherry flavors are enlivened by juicy acidity, picking up a suave cinnamon note on the back end. The red fruit finish clings impressively. A big wine, but the impression it leaves is one of finesse and focus." ( Jan/Feb '09) ETA for this wine is late fall 2009.
