91 points from the International Wine Review: "Medium ruby red showing ripe dark cherry fruit, smoke, and undergrowth on the nose. Very flavorful palate of spicy dark red fruit with strong earth and vanilla spice notes. Has a long, flavorful finish, again with the fruit shining through and just a touch of cola spice. Excellent intensity of flavor and superbly balanced." (Nov. 2009) An appellation blend from the Santa Lucia Highlands, this Pinot Noir has a heavy dose of fruit (44%) from the organic Double L Vineyard. Aromas of leather and minerals with hints of cherry cola, raspberry, lavender and earth tones really get Pinot-lovers fired up. The complex bouquet translates seamlessly to the palate, which has a medium frame and the lovely acidity of a cool vintage. According to Wine Enthusiast: "The first of Morgan's '07 Pinots to be released, this is a full-bodied wine that needs some time in the botle to mature. Not a lot, maybe a year or two, will allow the cherry, currant, mocha and cedar flavors to integrate with the oak and tannins." (09/09) And from Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright medium red. Wild strawberry and raspberry on the nose, with musky notes of rose and herbs adding complexity. A juicy but firm midweight that offers sweet red fruit flavors and a dusting of fine-grained tannins. Finishes with good grip and length but a slightly dry edge. More succulence would have driven my score higher." (Nov/Dec '09)

The Santa Lucia Highlands is always one of my favorite appellations for Pinot, and the '07 Morgan is a fantastic example of why this is such a prized AVA. My favorite thing about this wine is how complete it is from start to finish. It encompasses all the classic California Pinot qualities one could ask for including: lots of bright strawberry, brambly raspberry, soft rose and lavender undertones, Asian spice box and cherry cola with a touch of sweet smoke! Pour up a glass and go to heaven.

The Morgan is always one of my favorite California Pinots, and this year it is fantastic. Bright red fruits dominate the nose with plenty of cherry but also strawberry. The palate is refined with lots of cherry, some oak and some spice and good acidity. Oak spice comes through on the finish too, but with lots of fruit. This wine is always an elegant and balanced Pinot Noir.

I'll make this quick and simple: cherry, strawberry on the nose, perfect balance, medium-bodied weight with subtle tannic structure. A classy wine and an easy recommendation to fans of ANY style of pinot noir.

The 2007 Morgan "Twleve Clones" shows a lot of richness and depth without being overblown or sweet. Blueberry and hints of tropical fruit marked by oak spice are matched by smokey, gamey flavors. Medium + body and medium tannins make the overall wine come off very well-balanced and smooth. I see this wine pairing well with Asian-inspired cuisine, particularly dishes involving duck and/or soy sauces.

DELICIOUS. A great, classic Pinot nose: fragrant berries and cherry cola. On the palate, rich red berry fruit and a backbone of autumn spices. Pinot Noir

- One of France's most legendary grapes and the grape that earned Burgundy its reputation. The parent of varietals like Pinot Gris/Grigio and Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir is blue to violet to indigo in color with relatively thin skins, and it is said to have been cultivated in France for more than 2,000 years. At its best, Pinot Noir creates elegant wines that are filled with primary red fruit aromas and flavors while young, revealing with an array of secondary characteristics like earth, smoke, violet, truffle and game with age. The varietal is also known, perhaps better than any, for its ability to translate terroir, or a sense of place. While the best Pinot Noir still comes from Burgundy, it is being produced with increasing success in cooler climates around the world. In France, it is part of the trifecta of grapes that can go into Champagne, and it is also grown in Alsace, Irancy, Jura, Savoie, Lorraine and Sancerre. Outside of France it is produced under the names Pinot Nero and Blauburgunder in Italy's mountainous regions, as Spätburgunder in Germany and as Blauburgunder in Austria. In the US, Pinot Noir has found suitable growing conditions in the cooler parts of California, including Carneros, the Russian River Valley, the Anderson Valley, the Sonoma Coast, Monterey County, the Santa Lucia Highlands and Santa Barbara County, as well as in Oregon's Willamette Valley. In recent years, New Zealand has demonstrated its ability to interpret this hard-to-grow varietal, with successful bottlings coming from careful and attentive growers in Central Otago, Martinborough and Canterbury. Chile is also an up-and-coming region for Pinot Noir, creating fresh, fruit-forward, early-drinking and affordable Pinots from the coastal Casablanca Valley and the Limari Valley.
