92+ points Robert Parker: "The 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Herve seems to have more tannin than its siblings. Its dense plum/purple color is follwed by notes of creosote, blueberries, black currants, charcoal, lavender, and earth, and prominent silky tannins, good acids, and a sweet, ripe, pure personality. It will benefit from 1-2 years of bottle age, and should drink well for 12-15 years." (10/09) Burgundy wine broker Alain Corcia (and a longtime friend to K&L) has once again ventured into the southern Rhone to purchase wine from longtime contacts that he then sells for a song. Some of the cuvees see up to 30% new oak, however Corcia's overall philosophy is to keep the wood as a background element to the fruit, which is always dominated by grenache (60-70%) along with smaller amounts of syrah and mourvedre. As a direct buy, the rich and gutsy 2007 Hervé represents an outstanding value, as K&L has gone straight to the source, cut out the middleman, and passed the savings directly on to you. 14% abv.
