The 2003 vintage has been maligned by many a German purist because of its ample fruit and perceptibly low acid. This wine was probably one of the few that was a little too austere when it was released, and now it is shining nicely. There is plump fruit with tropical richness, a nice note of petrol on the nose and vibrant backbone of acidity. The Pechstein is one of Ernst Loosen's favorite vineyards in his Pfalz properties, and it shows the character of the terroir well. This was far and away the staff favorite from our JL Wolf acquisition, so you will be competing with K&L staff members to get a hold of this! (Keith Mabry, K&L Hollywood) According to the Wine Spectator: "Generous in texture and ample, this is austere in flavor. A fruit bomb, offering tropical fruit citrus and mineral notes with structure. Moderate length...Needs time. Best from 2006 through 2010." (05/05)
