2008 Bonny Doon Ca' del Solo Albarino

SKU #1045491

91 points from Wine Enthusiast: "Few winemakers in California understand acidity better than Randall Grahm, and he provides plenty of it in this brilliantly clean, bone-dry wine. It cleanses the mouth with scoury flavors of lychee, lime, nectarine, minerals and peppery nasturtium, with a foresty, resinous quality suggesting pine cone." (8/1/2009) Ca' del Solo is Bonny Doon's biodynamic vineyard, located in Monterey County, where the soils are surprisingly ideal for this rare Iberian varietal. The green-tinged 2008 vintage sings with ginger, lemon and sage aromas that really blossom on the palate. There's a slight almond undertone on the wine that keeps it from becoming too ethereal. Try it with oysters on the half shell or Santa Barbara spot prawns grilled with garlic, lemon, olive oil and chile flakes.

- When people consider domestic wine, they normally think about the state of California. The fine viticultural Region within California, including the Napa Valley, Sonoma, Santa Cruz Mountains, Mendocino and Santa Barbara, are capable of growing grapes of world-class quality. But there's plenty of fabulous wine coming from other states, too. Oregon, Washington and New York are also causing eyebrows (and glassware) to be raised around the world.
