2006 I Favati "Cretarossa" Campi Taurasini

SKU #1045278

The I Favati winery is located in Cesinale, a town and surrounding hilly area in the heart of Irpinia (east of Naples, in the region of Campania), a land with a profound calling to the creation of quality wines. Irpinia's unique, indigenous grape varieties make up all of I Favati's vineyards, which benefit from a perfect exposition to the sun. Each year, the harvest is carefully supervised by brothers Piersabino and Giancarlo Favati, founders of the winery. The region of Irpinia contains the DOCG of Taurasi, which is considered by many to produce the greatest, ageworthy Aglianico wines in Italy. The Cretarossa vineyard is located very close to Taurasi and produces structured wines not disimilar to its famous neighbor, at a considerably lower price! 100% Aglianico.

The Favati family makes about 4000 cases of wine a year, including some white (a Taurasi) as well as the I Favati Campi Taurasini “Cretarossa.” I just love this wine’s full and powerful palate feel. It is luscious and filling but at the same time has good structure and length. It has loads of deep black cherry fruit coupled with a supple and mouth-filling richness that just goes on and on. Hints of middle eastern spice emerge as the wine comes to the end of its long finish. This is definitely a wine to have with food, cheeses, braised meats or a big New York steak.

This 100% Aglianico beauty is a fantastic and food friendly wine with wonderful fruit and great structure. Fans of the powerful (and usually expensive) wines from the Taurasi region of Italy should jump on this delicious bargain. Take this complex, balanced stunner to your next BBQ and impress your friends.
