90 points from Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar:"Deep ruby. Ripe cherry and dark berry aromas, with notes of licorice and spicy herbs gaining power with air. A big boy but surprisingly graceful (especially in light of its stated 15.6% alcohol), with sexy candied cherry and blackberry flavors and supple tannins. Spicy oak carries through the long, sappy finish." (Nov/Dec '09) Kunin's "Westside" Zin comes from Cushman and Rancho Santa Margarita in Paso Robles, and is aged for 10 months in a combination of French and American oak. This is a forward style of Zin, with lots of bright red fruit and cookie spices on the nose. But this also has a lot more acidity than most modern Zins, which keeps the fruit from seeming overdone or Port-like. Medium-grained tannins give the wine nice structure and elegance. Pair this with duck confit or Santa Rosa-style barbecue.
