94 points from Robert Parker: "A fabulous Petite Sirah, Caliban’s 2004 rivals the finest Napa examples of this underrated varietal. An inky/blue/purple hue is followed by aromas and flavors of creosote, graphite, blueberries, blackberries, and brioche. The wine is full-bodied with fabulous pure fruit that cascades over the palate in layer upon layer. There is plenty of tannin, but most of it is buried under the extravagant display of fruit and glycerin. This 2004 should drink well for 20-25 years." (12/08) If you love "BIG" wines then you will surely want to grab a couple bottles of the Caliban Petite Sirah. Made by Dave Phinney of Orin Swift fame this is a complete, powerful, inky wine full of aromas of black coffee, black raspberry, cinnamon stick and tar. Both glass and palate coating this wine has had some time in bottle to assuage Petite Sirah's typically brutal tannins. Well under control at this point in its life with rich, ripe flavors of black licorice ropes, obsidian, olive and freshly picked blackberries. Long and lasting this is a perfect wine for a rib-eye or a braised roast. (Bryan Brick, K&L)
