2006 Hewitson "Miss Harry" Grenache-Shiraz-Mourvèdre Barossa Valley South Australia

SKU #1044524

91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Sep/Oct 08: "(47% each of grenache and shiraz, plus 6% mourvedre) Bright red. Smoky red berry, cherry, floral and herbal aromas reminded me of a suave Chateauneuf du Pape. Extremely fresh palate displays primary redcurrant and raspberry flavors, with silky tannins adding shape. Juicy acidity gives clarity and lift to the long, sappy finish. Already seductive and delicious." 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2006 Miss Harry GSM is a blend of 47% Grenache, 47% Shiraz, and 6% Mourvedre. Dark ruby in color, it reveals an enticing nose of spice box, mineral, earth notes, cherry, and blueberry. Elegant on the palate with loads of spicy red and blue fruits, it has enough silky tannin to blossom for another two years but can be enjoyed now." 94 points James Halliday's Australian Wine Companion: "A prime example of the blend (Grenache/Shiraz/ Mourvedre) and the region , with spicy, earthy nuances to a vibrant medium-bodied palate with exceptional length."

Sweet cherry, blackberry, raspberry in front. Herbs, earth, and minerals, with some floral, smokey, spicy nuances. Very interesting depth in the middle with subtle hints of a cheese cavern or dairy barn through the finish.

Australia

- While it is true that the greatest strides in Australian winemaking have come in the last 30 years or so, commercial viticulture began as early as the 1820s and has developed uninterrupted ever since. The majority of the great Region are in the southeastern area of the continent, with the Barossa Valley, Claire Valley, McLaren Vale, and Coonawarra in South Australia, the Yarra Yarra Velley and Pyrenees in Victoria and the Upper and Lower Hunter Valleys in New South Wales. Many of the wines from Southeastern Australia are based on Shiraz or Cabernet Sauvignon and various blends including Grenache and Mourvedre. In Western Australia, along the Margaret River, great strides are being made with Pinot Noir as well as Bordeaux-styled reds. There are also many world-class releases of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling from the land Down Under. While many equate Aussie wines with "value", there are more than a few extremely rare and pricey options, which never fail to earn the highest ratings from wine publications and critics throughout the world.
