94 points and #6 on the Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines of 2009: "Assertive herb, anise, blackberry and wild berry fruit is tight, firm, tannic and well-structured, picking up depth and length on the finish. Best from 2010 through 2016. 7,650 cases made." (07/09) And, according to Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Full ruby-red. Aromas of currant, tobacco, graphite and crushed rock. Sweet, plush and nicely deep, with a silky texture to the flavors of plum, currant and spicecake. Quite sweet, even a bit exotic, for this bottling. Finishes with substantial broad, dusty tannins and plenty of spicy, chocolatey oak." (May/June '09) For more than 30 years, the "Signature" Cabernet Sauvignon has been Chappellet's flagship wine. The 2006 is balanced and graceful while still packing the power of mountain fruit. Freshly-bruised herbs, plum and cherry fruit and a hint of stone carry from the wine's bouquet to its bold palate. Lots of spicy oak lingers on the finish. Enjoy now with some decanting or lay down for a few years.
