2007 Schloss Schönborn Erbacher Marcobrunn Riesling Kabinett

SKU #1043237

91 points Wine Spectator: "Beautifully displayed apricot, orange cream and stone notes mesh seamlessly with the rich texture and lively structure. Really juicy on the finish, with a long aftertaste. Drink now through 2022. 500 cases made." (12/08) Schloss Schönborn is one of Germany's largest and oldest estates and can be traced back to the times of the crusades in 1349. The estate is still family owned today. The famous Marcobrunn vineyard as interpreted by Schloss Schonborn is truly a delight but not for the faint of heart. This is an old style Baroque Riesling - big, heavy and concentrated with the Marcobrunn nose of mineral, spice and herbs tempered with a warm rich earthy character. Wound up and still young, drink it now for its sheer intensity or put down to let the complexity come out.

An outstanding balance of sweetness and acidity, the wine is soft, and round while maintaining some zip. Add some delicious cocktail fruit/apricot flavors and you've got the perfect wine for Indian/Thai takeout night. Stock up if you eat that at least once a week like I do. A perfect example of why 2007 is a fantastic vintage for Germany.

Just had this last night with some delicious poached salmon and spicy sauteed gyspy peppers a la Derek. The classic, varietally-driven white peach and lime fruit flavors of the wine, coupled with unctuous acidity and sweetness on the finish was perfect for the salmon, which demands both weight and delicacy, and the spicy peppers, for which some residual sugar is preferred to balance the heat. I recommend this for any spicy or exotically flavored dish - Asian, Mexican, Indian.
Drink from 2008 to 2018
