2007 Carballal "Sete Cepas" Albariño Rias Baixas, Spain

SKU #1042300

Produced from younger vine estate grapes and purchased fruit, this delicious Albariño pulls the minerals from the soil and the sea air not far away. Very refreshing with nice bracing acidity, there are hints of exotic fruits as well as stone fruits. A perfect match with warm weather fare as well as being the absolute perfect match with fish and shellfish. 7 Cepas is a playful nod to the fact that there are seven brothers in the family that make this wine.

This is awesome Albariño, easily our best under $20, and among our most interesting whites in the store at any price. Taste its terrific smoky minerality, bright fruit and crisp acidity and you’ll get it. Serious, but charming, enjoy this as an aperitif or with shellfish like the Galicians do.

My wife and I drank the Sete Cepas last night with shrimp tacos she made from a recipe in "Real Simple: Meals Made Easy". The combination blew our minds... the wine perfectly complimented the sweetness of the shrimp, the smoky, earthy flavors of the roasted tomatillo salsa and the richness of the sour cream sauce. We also discovered after dinner that this wine is not only food-friendly, but also sippin' friendly--enough, but not too much acidity, and some interesting flavors going on. It was far too easy to polish off the bottle. In fact, I'm back on this page for the express purpose of ordering two more!
