We are directly importing several spectacular wines from a tiny domaine in the hills of Mâcon in a town called Vergisson. Denis Barraud has a tiny estate called Domaine des Nembrets. This Macon comes from his estate vineyards on the slopes of the Roche de Vergisson, a giant basalt monolith, surrounded by complex and folded rocky, well-drained soils with limestone outcroppings. Depending on the soil geology, a vineyard might be St. Veran, Pouilly Fuissé, or just Macon Vergisson. But all are hand-picked, artisanal wines from one of the emerging talents in this part of the world. This is bright and very rich on the palate, with lovely acidity that wakes your mouth. There is more minerality than many Macons, and the cool evenings here in the hills result in a fresh, bright wine. Excellent! (Keith Wollenberg, K&L Burgundy Buyer, 03/07)
