Floral and black licorice notes mix with rich flavors of black cherry, date and candied orange peel, with a hint of whole-grain toast. Dry and fine-grained, this vibrant wine ends with a subtle, mouthwatering finish. Drink now through 2020. (11/ 2011)
A wine with the ripeness of a good 2002, with White fruits and a densely texture character. The one problem at this stage is with the dosage, which pushes sweetness forward, giving richness but also unbalancing the fruit and acidity. Give the wine 4–5 years. (12/ 2009)
In the great vintage of 2002, Clicquot made no La Grand Dame, allowing the very best of their harvest to go into this wine. Fruity and rich, this new release offers stone fruit (peach and apricot) aromatics with toasty notes of brioche and nuts. On the palate these characters are repeated along with baking spice, nice Pinot structure and bright and clean Chardonnay minerality. Hits all the notes it should, and this will age over the next decade if you can keep your hands off that long.
